Maxwell received a request from Eugene Hunter to take a look at the material used for lining trays in the oven located in the glass blowing shop. A sample of this material was obtained by C. P. Maxwell that we analyzed for asbestos. The results show possible presence of chrysotile type asbestos material. The material in the oven is crumbling and presents a potential exposure problem. I recommend that the material be carefully removed and replaced with a non-asbestos material. You may wish to consider a thermal barrier cloth such as SiltempR which offers protection up to 3000F.
