The Board also approved the following 1970 assessment rates applicable to all members: Classification 1970 Rates Per Ton Mining Smelting & Refining Manufacturing Assembled Articles Pig Lead Sales in U.S. $ . 21 .09 .09 .05 1.05 The 1970 rate per ton increase over that of 1969 reflects a more equitable distribution of the funding of the Health and Safety activities, as reported in the minutes of the Board meeting: "The Chairman then pointed out that the (Health and Safety) program has continued through 1969 at a level of expenditure of $75,000 a year (increased to $125,000 in 1970) but that no additional funds had been raised for Health and Safety activities since 1967 when a fund of $206,000 was established. He further reported that these funds were provided the Association on the basis of 85 percent from the pig lead sellers and 15 percent from all members. He stated that the Health and Safety problems are the concern of all members and suggested that funds for this program be subscribed to by all members on a more equitable basis. Further, that the funding be made on a regular assessment basis rather than a special assessment as had been done previously." These recommendations were adopted by the Board.
