Subjects Material Analyses for Asbestos
References March 9, 1981 Report - Same Subject - R. Wabeke to J. Woodward
A meeting was held March 18, 1981 with Messrs. Quarles, Shaw, and Woodward to discuss action to be taken on the referenced report in which results of asbestos analyses of 55 chist samples obtained from Research and Engineering Center were given. Forty-two were negative for asbestos dust and fibers (<Vf>).
The thirteen samples that gave a presumptive positive test were subsequently analyzed by X-ray diffraction to confirm the type and amount of asbestos present. As indicated on the attachment, six samples contained more than 1% chrysotile asbestos, one of which also contained 2-35& amosite asbestos.
Arrangements will be made to have an industrial hygienist survey these areas and study work practices to determine if employes ere exposed to airborne asbestos fibers. Recommendations for control will be submitted if exposures are excessive.
