It had prospects for a bright future and. began expanding* The first of the Company1 s large plant system was set up in 189b* Situated on the outskirts of Cincinnati, it has since developed into the hub of the present day activities* Two years later, Mr. Carey died at the height of hie business career* His lifetime. ambition had been to achieve a 8100,000 annual sales volume* Always working end striving to build up his little company, Mr* Carey had somehow fallen short of his goal* But tha vary year ha diad, aalas totalled $102,000. beamaatawa As Carey grew into a national organisation, new plants were acquired* In 1902 its first asbestos machine produced asbestos paper* Then, a special asbestos plant was manned in 1907* Several years later, a magnsaia plant was addad at Plymouth PaonsTlvanla. With tha affactIt* utilisation of asphalt( asbestos and magnesia by-prOduCts, tha Carey lina grew steadily. In 1933 another Canadian plant was added for the nanufacture of coverings, cements and roofing materials at Lennoxvilla, Quebec. That same year facilities of the Miami Cabinet Company at Middletown, Ohio, ware purchased. Today, this division is the largest producer of bathroom cabinets and accessories in its field. To better serve the eastern market, Carey established a Perth Amboy, N. J., plant in 1942, for the manufacture of its complete line. At the cessation of World War II hostilities, the Company set out to enlarge its plant and research facilities. The sum of $12,000,000. was earmarked for the program. In 1951, Carey purchased the Asbestos Company of Texas at Houston, The Lehon Company, Chicago, Illinois, manufacturers of the well-known Mule-Hide brand of asphalt roofings, roof coatings and other felt products, became a subsidiary of Carey in February, 1955. The operations of Lahon continued as a separate company under its former personnel and policies. The well-established Mule-Hide line, which has an excellent reputation in the building trade, has been retained. The same month, Carey acquired its second asbestos mine site in East Brougiton, Quebec. A combination mill and mine is now operated there by Carey-Canadian Mines, Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary. Among tha post-war building at Lockland is the large, up-to-date addition to the Research Laboratory.
