Carlson, we're pleased to hear that there is every expectation to continue the experimental bottling of distilled spirits products in semi-rigid PVC liquor bottles. Mr. Carlson reflects a sound awareness of the large quantity of information -- and misinformation -- currently available on the nature and extent of the role of plastics in general, and PVC liquor bottles in particular, in solid waste management. He indicated that at some time in the future, when the experimen is extended, it will be necessary to prepare a statement of environmental impact for initial review by the Treasury Dept. -- presumably Mr, Richard E. Slitor, Assistant Director, Office of Tax Analysis (964-2797) as identified in the C.E.Q. Guideline Fed. Reg. 7729 (4/23/71). 1 offered the services of authoritative personnel in the Society of the Plastics Industry to answer questions on this subject, or provide any relevant information, whenever your office considers this appropriate.
