March 8, 1984 TO; RE; Operations General Managers ASBESTOS EXPOSURE 0 Today, Dr. Irby showed me the results of a corporate wide asbestos survey conducted in 1983 by Industrial Hygiene and Central Engineering. Surveys of all our manufacturing facilities have now been completed. While there is still some structural asbestos in our buildings and furnaces, and some minimal use of preformed and/or premachined asbestos products, he has assured me that there is no reason for any of our workers to be exposed to asbestos dust. It is my understanding that a very comprehensive list of asbestos substitutes has been developed. With these substitutes and the instructions from Industrial Hygiene on the handling and dismantling of asbestos, he is confident that there is no longer any exposure to asbestos in our corporation. Dr. Irby was very appreciative of the help and full support he received from each of you on this effort. I am sure that with your help this very worthwhile achievement will be maintained. William 0.
