Cralley discussed a paper on "Exposure to Metal in the Manufac re of Asbestos Textile Products'* by L.J* Cralley* R.G, Kee nan and J*Tt* Lynch* which was accepted for publication in the Journ al of American Hygiene* The paper deals with the potential exposures of workers processing asbestos to hasardous materials other than asbestos* Investigation was undertaken to define the nature and extent of exposure to metals such as nickel* chromium* eobalt and magnesium in the manufacture of asbestos textile products* 2t was concluded that the relationship between these metal exposures and the increased pulmonary and other cancer observed in asbestos workers should be investigated and* that it is no longer tenable to look only for asbestos fibers or bodies in the biological tissue and by their presence assume a cause and effect relationship with the disease* It was announced that there will be a meeting in Antigua during the week of Thanksgiving Day, sponsored by the Q.Ij.a. and by special in vitation* The purpost of the neting is to discuss toxic materials* namely asbestos* and the effects of exposure* Dr* Cralley discussed plans for obtaining additional information needed to continue the Environmental Health Survey such as health profiles and employment records* and he stated that the cooperation of the members of the industry would be needed* It was the concensus of the Committee that the program and informa tion is desirable and necessary and recommends to the Ooard of Gov ernors that the A.T.I* continue to cooperate with the U*S.P.HS. in continuing the clinical and environmental studies* Miscellaneous One company reported that after 14 years of service a set of dust bags made of cotton aateen was still la good condition* Another company is experimenting with a totally enclosed carding sehiae to eliminate human exposure to dust* The possibility of exchange visits among representatives of member companies for the purpose of cooperative advancement in di at control was discussed* W*C* ATKINSON, Chairman
