Washington, D.C. 20590 Dear Secretary Duffy, I write in support of the Port of Los Angeles' (POLA) National Highway Freight Net-work Improvement Program - State Route (SR) 47 / Seaside Avenue and Maly Way Interchange Improvement Project (Project). The POLA recently applied for a $25 million grant as part of the Fiscal Year 2025 United States Department of Transportation's (USDOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program. This project is located at the center of the San Pedro Bay Port complex, which is comprised of the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach, the largest port complex in the Western Hemisphere. It will improve the flow of cargo and improve safety on a major artery that 10% of all U.S. port containers entering and exiting the nation utilize daily. The project augments an existing partial interchange at the SR 47/Navy Way intersection and incorporates several new safety components. These components include the removal of the only traffic signal and at-grade intersection on SR 47, between two other critical National Highway Freight Network routes, I-110 and I-710. The project will significantly reduce vehicular delays, collisions on a high-speed highway with a history of fatal and injury accidents, while strengthening the U.S. supply chain. POLA is requesting $25 million in SS4A funds for the construction phase of the project. The amount will be matched with $9.99 million from the POLA and $41.79 million from the California State Transportation Agency's 2023 Port and Freight Infrastructure Program.
