i Lead - Medical surveillance program
The company has conducted an assessment and determined that
occupational exposure to lead may be a potential health hazard in the Packing Department Lead powder is used in
the mixer 400 day for two weeks every four months
The lead control program includes a medical surveillance
program under the direction of Dr. F. Shapiro Wilson Medical Clinic Hamilton In addition to placement medicals target periodic medical examinations are conducted every 12 months house by Dr. Shapiro Blood leads are monitored every six months The worker and employer are being advised regarding the interpretation of the results of the examination The health and safety committee are
not receiving the results of the clinical monitoring
The regulation does not stipulate who shall be the examining physician If an employee choses to be examined by his ' personal physician he may do so The employer should provide the physician with a copy of the exposure records of the worker The examining physician must advise the joint health and safety committee on a confidential basis in writing of the results of clinical tests blood lead along with an opinion as to how these tests should be interpretated

and PFT is conducted The health educational program advises the workers of the hazards from asbestos and smoking
Messrs Mellikow and Dawson stated there are plans to delete asbestos from the plant by August 1985

Advice to Management and the Health and Safety Committee
1. That the employer provide the examining physician with a
copy of the exposure records of workers
2 That the examining physician be consulted regarding the requirement of advising the health and safety committee on
a confidential basis of the results of the clinical tests
along with a written opinion as to how these tests should be interpreted
