(I will be in ~liami Beach for another conference at that time.) On another subject, Hr. Weaver and I have discussed the possibility of another c~ittee meeting. Our last meeting was on June 1, 1973. Your Chairman and I do not believe in calling for a meeting unless there are items of substance on the agenda. Currently, Ur. l~eaver and others in the Industry are preparing a draft to send to OSHA concerning work practice standards for various asbestos p~oducts. The first will be presented at 9.40 A.M. Thursday, May 16, entitled, "Exposure of Turnpike Toll Booth Operators to Automobile Dust". It is by L. Diberardinis, W. A. Burgess, and J. J. ~ch of the Harvard School of Public Health. The other two papers will be presented 11.20 and 11.40 A.M. Friday, May 17. The first is entitled, "A eomparative Review of Dust Conditions and Clinical Observations of Two Brake Lining Manufacturing Industries" by J. E. Cowle, G. S. Rajhans, and D. E. Moore of the Ontario Ministry of Health. The second is entitled, "Asbestos Exposure During Brake Lining l'1aintenance and Repair" by A. N. Rohl, H. Anderson, W. J. Nicholson, and A.M. Langer of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York. You may wish to alert FMSI people who might be interested in attending one or more of these sessions at the American Industrial Hygiene Conference. This is to advise the committee that its members unanimously supported recommending to the Board of Directors that an insert be made in the Institute's catalogs on recommended procedures for brake servicing. Further, the committee :.E unanimously favored the one page write-up that was enclosed with the ballot "Recommended Procedures for Reducing Asbestos Dust During Brake Servicing." All committee members voted (5-0). Dr. Jacko did not vote, having resigned from the committee this past fall as he was being transferred to Europe on a temporary assignment. This subject will now be reviewed by our Data Book and Technical Committee before forwarding recommendations to the Board of Directors. One member added these comments: PRINTING A PAGE IN THE FMSI CATALOGS STILL DOES NOT GET PROCEDURES INTO THE HANDS OF THE GARAGE MECHANIC. THE IDEAL SOLUTION IS FOR REBUILDERS OR OTHER PEOPLE PUTING LINING SETS INTO INDIVIDUAL BOXES TO INCLUDE A FOLDED 8-1/2 x 11 SHEET ON PROCEDURES IN EACH BOX.
