FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWBERRY PLANT EXPANDED NEW YORK, MARCH 1^, 1967 - Baroid Division of National Lead Company has announced a major expansion of its operations at Newberry, California. The Newberry plant processes special clays used as gelling agents in paints, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, and as a clarifying agent in brewing. The expansion will increase plant'capacity and efficiency throughout the operation. A new spray dryer will double the amount of wet clays processed. Drum dryer capacity will also be substantially increased by the installation of additional equipment. Wet room facilities will be enlarged to handle the clays in slurry form. Warehousing space will be expanded and a new 100 ton storage silo will be erected adjacent to the extended railroad siding. Completion is scheduled for the end of this year and production will be available for the increasing demand for special gellants at home and abroad. Baroid Division specializes in oil well drilling materials, well logging services and chemicals for the petroleum and other industries on an international basis. National Lead Company's Pigments and Chemicals Division markets the gelling agents produced at this plant to the paint industry. 0000-NLI-000024619
