In this case, it has b e e n t h i r t y - s e v e n years. Usually, ten to twenty years is e x pe c t e d before symptoms begin to appear. L o n g e r tines are not u n he a r d of, though. This nay be one of the exceptions. One c o m p l i c a t i o n and c o n t r i b u t o r y factor is present howover, - that of smoking. Hr. F razee is an admitted one pack per day s m o k e r for forty-three years. This pers o n a l habit is responsible for more chronic respiratory problems than all other causes combined. When combined with asbestos exposures, smoking increases the likelihood of asbestosls, lung oanoer and other complications many times over. The smoking, of cour se, is a complicating factor. With the other findings in Mr. Frazee's m ed ic a l exam, the ultimate outcome of his problems seems apparent.
