Company and subsidiary Loiza Sugar Co. operate sugar mills at F ajardo and Canovanas, P uerto Rico. Affiliated Fajardo S u g a r G ro w ers' A ss'n ow ns 29,951 acres of lan d a n a leases 18,390, of w hich som e 20.753 acres are planted in sugar cane. The companies con trol through grinding contracts w ith colonos som e 16.096 acres, of w hich a b o u t 9,412 a re planted in cane. T h e re a rc 37 m iles of m eter gauge main line connecting a t Caro lina w ith th e line of th e American Railroad Co., w hich extends to San Ju an , and a t Naguabo w ith the line of the Ferrocarril del Este, which extends to Humacao. Branch line runs to th e port of Fajardo. Branch lines comprise 30 m iles of m e te r gau g e tra c k and 91 m iles of 30" g a u g e tra c k . R o llin g stock com prises 15 s te a m a n d o n e gasoline locom otive, 580 can e a n d se rv ic e c a rs of m e te r gauge a n d 1.070 cars of 30" gauge. Floating equipm ent a t th e p o rt of Fajardo, through w hich are handled out-
oing sugar and incom ing freight, com prises 8 ghters and one tugboat. M iscellaneous properties include three steel w areh o u ses w ith sto rag e capacity fo r 400.000 bags o f su g a r of 310 lbs. each, an d five steel m olasses ta n k s w ith storage capacity fo r 5,300,000 gallons.
