Projects Underway or Planned to Reduce Exposure Projects recently completed to reduce exposure were: a. Installation of a wash water collection tank. b. Extension of reactor relief valve lines above the reactor building roof line. Projects Underway or Being Planned Expanded leak patrol to have patrols on a daily basis. At present, we are averaging patrols three (3) days per week. Dale Francke is studying the manning required to provide seven (7) day per week patrols. Continued training of operators to follow procedures which will reduce the possibilities of VC1 emissions and permit rotation of operators throughout the plant. This is extremely important in view of the fact that the PVC plant presently has three operators and four trainees with less than two weeks experience. In addition to the above items, the PVC plant has incorporated a number of engineering features in the current expansion project to reduce VC1 exposure. This work includes: APOOC J. X. Barr -3- 17 November 1975 1. A central control system 2. Close d charge systems 3. Expanded chemical cleaning 4. Internal spray rinse valves 5. Charge pots 6. Closed circuit TV 7. New vent condenser system 8. Expanded recovery system including a gas holder 3. What will the plant do after 1 April 1976? Most of the project included in the PVC expansion will not be completed until December, 1976. As a result, we feel the operators in the reactor building will have to work in air masks. In order to minimize the loss of work efficiency resulting from the use of air masks, we are training the operators to work all of the jobs in the PVC plant. This will permit rotation of the operators between the regulated and non-regulated areas and permit effective use of the, fresh air "safe haven" rooms already provided in the plant. EAP:me E. A.
