PREFACE ; ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, SIGNIFICANT CHANGES, COMMENTS AND REQUESTS
1 The 14 new cases in this Register are: France 26, 27, 28; Germany 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39; Spain 01; QK17, US 42,43. The Spanish case is the first notified from that country.
2 The following 2 cases have been deleted from the Register: Germany 26 (Alcoholic Cirrhosis), US24 (Cholangiosarcoma).
3 There are amendments from the previous Register against cases: France 22, 23, 24; Germany 31, 32; US33, 34.
4 I thank the following for information about new cases: Drs Lagast, Contassot, Friedel, Tenkhoff, Lee, Hamill and Mr Roy N Johnson. For information about other cases I thank Drs Dietz, Fendel, Smith and Williams.
5 So far as I know the following are still alive: France 15 and 28; US33 and 36. I am grateful for information on this subject in the past year, and urgently need to be kept up-to-date, please.
6 In Table 3 I have now treated a 'cluster1 as 3 cases instead of 2, due to the passage of time and the increased number of cases in the world.
7 Tables 4E to 4H have been amended, as the number of cases per factory has altered.
8 A new Table 16 has been introduced showing the number of PVC factories in the world so far as known to me. Please keep me informed of any
alterations in ownership, openings, re-openings or closures (see Tables 8 to 15).
9 The initials of case UK05 have been amended to RK (not JK). It will be seen that certain cases have no initials against them. Can anyone please help with this? Some of the countries concerned are Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Sweden, the US and Yugoslavia.
10 CHOLANGIOSARCOMA As stated above I have deleted US24 which was a Cholangiosarcoma, not an Angiosarcoma. I have heard of another case of Cholangiosarcoma but the significance of these cases is not apparent in connection with VCM. I should be grateful if anyone who knows of any other case where the patient does develop Cholangiosarcoma with VCM exposure, would inform me about it.
11 RESEARCH Please keep me informed of all relevant research and if possible send me copies of Reports. Would recipients of the Register please pass on this request.
12 Please also notify me of all changes relevant to the Register and especially new cases, for which a blank sheet is provided at the back of the Register.
