Since each member of the Institute had received copier of the Minutes and was familiar with their contents the Secretary was directed to omit the reading of the Minutes of the last General Meeting of the Institute on a motion made by Mr. E. R. Teubner, seconded by Mr. VV. C. Scott and unanimously adopted. 3. The Treasurer's Report (copy attached) (1) was presented by Mr. *7. C. Scott and the Secretary was requested to read the report to the group. It was moved by Mr. E. R. Teubner, seconded by Mr. F. J. Wakem and unanimously agreed that the report be accepted and entered as a pert of the Minutes of this meeting. Marshall reported hia action in connection with efforts to obtain a clarification of the role asbestos assumes as a carcinogenic material as related in the article "Cancer and Environment", Scientific American, Jan. 1949, A specialist in this field associated with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co, was contacted by Mr. Marshall and the resulting exchange of curresponuence is nex'ewiun uttacueu, roxlowing t* uiauua- slon of the subject it was unanimously agreed that the matter should be tabled at this time. 6. Mr, J. M. Weaver informally reported the progress being made on the Federal program of asbestos stockpiling. Unanimous approval of his comments and efforts in this endeavor was given, 7. The Sales Promotion Committee activities were next discussed end the remarks mainly concerned the Visual Aid Display which is being promoted by the Institute* a) Mr, F, J, Wakem discussed the inadvisability of seeking bids from other display manufacturers in an effort to obtain a lower price than has beer, quoted by Gardner Display Company, the manufacturer of the original unit. It was generally agreed that It would be improper to seek bids from other manufacturers on an unit Identical to the original and it was thought question able that a much lower price could be obtained from any other manufacturer on a display of comparable quality. It was there fore moved by Mr. F. J. Wakem, seconded by Mr. G. W, Marshall end unanimously agreed that $3000*00 should be transferred from 0 6 (J 6 ^ i I s 3 >> t?2U 9 33 9 3 3 S BALD"IN&BaLD"IN 'in.3 the General Fund to the Visual id Display Fund to pay for the six displays to bo purchased frojn Gardner Display Company, pur chase of which was authorized at tho General Meeting of the Institute held in Chicago, 111,, on April 7, 1949. b) It was unanimously agreod that Mr. W. C. Scott be authorized to obtain tho necessary insurance coverage against damage for the present display and for those that will subse quently come into the possession of the Institute. The present cabinet is valued at $600,00 and the remaining units will be valued at $300,00 each. c) Through action of the Sales Promotion Committee several changes are to bo made in the first display in an effort to more accurately depict the story being presented, Mr. F. Vitalone, This action was unanimously agreed to and an expression of thanks extended to Johns-Manvllle Co., for their cooperation in this endeavor, d) The Sales Promotion Committee in meeting on May 26th discussed the advisability of supplementing the Visual Aid Dis play with literature such as the ^sbestoe Textile Institute Primer, In this same connection, the National Science Teachers Association in correspondence with tho Secretary solicited further cooperation with our Association through a relisting for the distribution of from 5000 to 10,000 more copies of our publication. The correspondence covering this subject has been made a part of the Minutes of the May 26th meeting of the Sales 0 6 l.i 6 ? fr 5* ^ i) 4 '3 7 214 9 35 9 53 * Promotion Committee* The Secretory obtained from Allen, Lane and Scott, publishers of the Primer, a quotation covering a second printing of this publication and this quotation Is here with attached (4)* After a considerable amount of discussion the following action was taken: The President polled the membership in attendance on the question: "Shall the Institute authorize a second printing of the 'Primer on Asbestos Textiles?'" By a voto of four votes to two votes the proposal was defeated and the Secretary was fn nrtvi n / I T ftn, T.Rrm Ac ftc-nt-t, Printers, and the National Science Teachers Association of this action. 8. Mr. \7. C. Scott presented to the meeting a notice from Creth and Sullivan, bonding agents, advising that June 25, 1949, is the expiration date for the present $20,000. bond now covering the assistant Treasurer. Mr. Scott pointed out that renewal for throe years could be accomplished at 2^ times the yearly rate and would result in a saving on this expenditure* Since this expenditure la refundable on a short term pro rata basis In case a full tenure of office Is not completed It was unani mously agreed that the Institute should take advantage of the saving and renow the committment for three years at a cost of $125.00. 9. The President placed before the mooting for consideration the subject of Fellowship renewal. <.ftcr a discussion and considera tion of the financial status of the Institute it was moved by Mr. G. '.V. Marshall, seconded by Mr. F. ,J. Wakem and unanimously agreed that the Fellowship should be renowed for another year, 0f5U69y . Marshall end unanimously agreed that the following resolution bo Incorporated as a part of these considerations* "Resolved that the Fellowship Agreement between the Asbestos Textile Institute and Rutgers University be renewed for one year ct a cost of $7*500*00 plus expensos. (Since the Fellowship Fund contains a surplus which will cover a part of the cost of this obligation, member companies shall be assesse on?i $4000,00 for the extension of this agreement)." 10* Mr. M. I. Ruddock* Legal Counsel* discussed recent cases and legislative developments in connection with the Anti-Trust lav/s* A report covering the pertinent points is herewith attached. (5) / 11. Mr, J. M. Weaver presented the Tochnical Comnittoe Report. (copy attached (6)* A reviow of the work of the Technical Committee with respect to actions taken in connection with the new Armed Forces Electro-Standards Agency Specifications was discussed* 12, A report on the Fellowship activities was presented by fjr. M. C. Shaw* (report attached) (7). ^ 13. A letter recently received by the Secretary (copy attached (8) from the American Standards association was read wherein a w roquost was made for representation by the Institute on a com mittee which is to work on the development of standards for Safety Clothing. Frederick, Kecsbey k Mattison Co., regarding the Firefighting Clothing Project under investigation at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, wa8 presented, (copy attached (9). After a discussion of the subject It was agreed that no action by the Institute was indicated at this tine. ' 15. There being no further business to oome before the meeting, it was moved by Mr. A. R.
