The use of lead acts as a safety fuse where water hammer is encountered. Under installation, adequate goose necks should be provided, and pipe should be laid in fine dirt free from rocks, protected by wrapping or pitchfilled troughs where electrolysis is known to exist, and should pass through an iron wall.
