J.?. Wronski gave a report on the tests than were conducted an the Raybestos-Manhattan plant in isnhoin, ?a.^ The attempt to Tine a correlation between the Impingor end the Bausch tc Lonb Dust Counter lead tc the conclusion that little correlation between the two instruments exists-, particularly in regards to large particle size -as well as in areas of high dust concentrations. This phenomenon is due tc the low trapping velocity cT the Bausch t. Lamb Dust Counter, which is therefore not Po bo con sidered as a replacement Tor the Irapinger. However, the Bausch Lcmb Dust Counter has proven its feasibility as en excellent monitoring device. . Hr. C.L. Shcckler reported on the Membrane-Filter Method and will present a paper cn that method at the next meeting. Dust Control in the Hanufacturin^; Process: Equipment designed for the reduccin of dust in che various operations of textile manu- rac-turing vaB extensively discussed: L. A bag opening, emptying and storage system, designed by Barkley fc Dexter, Inc. 2. A bag dumper, designed by the Wilkra Co. 3. 5ag opening and handling devices, designed by the member cempani es . ii. Various, systems of moving blends to cards.-- 5. Balloonlesa spinning and twisting., 6. Wet weaving 0002949 One mem b er company reported or. -a.ballLoonless spinning frame based cn the woolen system. 3alloonloss spinning seems to be desirable inasmuch as the absence of a balloon results in a much lower dust, count. Woolen type spinning frames operate usually at a considerable higher spindlu speed than those now being used in the' asbestos textile industry. As a result broken ends will stir up a great deal cf ! dust. It is therefore imperative that the spindle will stop as soon as an end breaks. The manufacturer of the spinning framehas designed an automatic spindle stop notion and is at present experimenting with such, a device, which is similar to the one already being used cn ballocnless twisting frames. . , __ , ?age-2, Minutes - Air Hygiene U danufaccuring Committee - continuoa: It is hoped that top management will agroe to an open exchange or health safety ideas, including designs, plans, photographs and --isitors in areas of mutual interest in regards to the reduction or (f.f ever possible) total elimination of dust in the manufacturing process. The members of the committee agreed to have technical inTorhation concerning health safety practices on hand at the next meeting. Members of the committee stressed the prnnt that drr v eariati of aapescos cxocn presents one of the greatest health safety problems '"in L1I6 Shdalecion of asbestos textiles. Again can only be accomplished by the process of wet woven cloth. This material (wet woven cloth) is less dusty and therefore less hazardous. r The Air Hygiene .c: Manufacturing Committee respectfully urges immed iate action by the Board of Governors to coordinate this matter with all ATI standing committees and follow up with specific recommendation for industry-wide action.
