Philadelphia laboratory November 2, 1919 ELVAC3T (POLYVim ACETATE) COATIHO zme-w Dr, P. S. Pinkney, Dr. E. P. Caervvin and Dr. i/-*'s^.nv Cupery visited the laboratory on 10/7/19 to discuss the use of Elvaoet in architectural finishes, first boaters and basement wall sealers. A sample of a smaller particle size emulsion was received last spring which showed an improvement in wet errosion resistance over the standard 31-900. However, after storage and at high temperatures and humidity this material is poor in wet errosion resistance* Elchem had dilution and mechanical stability difficulties which they were able to correct. A sample of the corrected small particle size e mulsion, to have been sent to us some time ago, has been received since this meeting. The samples of corrected polyvinyl acetate emulsion contain 0.3$ lorol and 0.3$ Emulphor ELA and are 10$ solid. Another sample to be supplied at 50-55$ solids has been promised to us. The new samples will be tested for scrub resistance and sliminess, and will be tested further for brushing properties etc, if water resistance is favorable. Dr* Czerwln predicted, off the record, that 81-900 or its equivalent might eventually sell for 16//#. It now sells at 19-1/2/#, The cost of the solids would be reduced from 35*1 to 29.2//# and the cost of first coater from 30/ more than alkyd primer sealer to 20/ more than primer sealer.
