The samples were received on January 12, 1989 and analyzed on January 19, 1989 in accordanqe with NIOSH Analytical Method No. 7400/Rule A. 1 A pie-shaped portion of each MCE filter was cleared with 1:1 Dimetnyl phthalate-Diethyl oxalate mixture and examined by Phase Contrast Microscope at a magnification of 400X. Upon examination, the length and width of asbestos fibers were measured by using a Waiten-Beckett G22 graticule. Any fibers less than five microns in length are not considered to be asbestos. Any particulates with a length greater than five microns and a length to diameter ratio of 3 to 1 or greater are considered to be asbestos fibers. Quality assurance practices employed include graticule calibration, recounts. Blanks, Inter laboratory counting, participating in Proficiency Evaluation Testing Program with NIOSH (NIOSH PAT/LAB # 77642-001). Please see following page for results. The visual estimation if relative concentration of Asbestos vtas made by examining the bulk samples under a Simple microscope.
