I agree with you that the report of the Ketropolitan-uLlfe
Insurance Company on their survey of dust conditions at the Eanheim plant is unfavorable, and I have thoroughly discussed the matter with our men here.
VTe have decided to go ahead with the Preparing Room first and within the next few weeks we will be making improvements in this department. The Card Room, which is a bigger and more expensive job, will come later.
Some of the data in the report is rather difficult to under stand. For instance, in the Spooling and Twisting Departments they report 15.35 million particles per cubic foot in 1935 as against 2.35 million'particles in 1930, There were no hoods or direct ventillstion on these machines either in 1930 or in 1935 and it hardly seems plausable that minor changes in the mixes which occurred between .these periods could have accounted for the large difference in dust count. 'However, regardless of whether or not these figures accurately reflect the true conditions1 we are convinced that improvements in the dust exhaust system should be made and we are going ahead with them.
While I am in England I expect to get complete data on Turner Brothers' experience with the idea that some of this data in conjunction with our experience at Charleston may help us get the best and least expensive way of solving our problem.
