Chen, Ernie Pronske, All Plant Managers HAZARDOUS MATERIAL TRAINING (In response to your IRA dated 12-19-85) riAINTIFF'f 11 exhibit The U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration promulgated a new "Hazard Communication Standard" on November 25, 1983. The purpose of this Standard is to ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported are evaluated and the information concerning .their hazards is transmitted to affected employers and employees within the manufacturing sector. This H.C.S. preempts any state law pertaining to the same subject, and applies to chemical manufacturers, importers and distributors as well as to all employers within Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes 20-39 (our case). Chemical manufacturers, importers, and distributors are required to be in compliance with applicable provisions of the H.C.S. by November 25, 1985. All the rest of the employers must be in full compliance by May 25, 1986 (our case).. The "Hazardous Material Training", mentioned in your IRA, is just one section of the entire program. As a manager of Corporate Environmental Control Department, I will personally develop this program for our Company. Naturally, all plant inputs concerning this program are more than welcome here at the headquarters. I> completed all J-M Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) back in 1983, and they were sent to J-M's customers through our sales representatives. If you are.interested in obtaining them, please contact J-M sales representatives in your area. It should be noted that our sales representatives are responsible for distributing those MSDS to our customers. For your information, the related past memos are attached. Since the Denison plant uses several materials that fall under "hazardous materials" definition, we need to develop an employee training/information program. Do you have any training programs available that can be used in our plant or tailored for use at Denison? If not, 'are' there any such programs going to be developed by corporate headquarters group? Has J-M established material safety data sheets (MSDS) to send to our customers? A/C, PVC etc? If there are such sheets can they be furnished to Denison? If not, when can we expect this to-be done?
