We are certainly pleased to have your letter of October Both, advising of your interest in the MSA Combination Hose Mask shown in Bulletin 3B-1 attached.
While v/e have available several models, we v/ould especially recommend the Combination Hose Mask because it is officially approved by the United States Bureau of Mines for use with as much as 150' of 1M medium oilproof hose, running direct from each of the outlets on our new double outlet blower. It is the only mask we have available having the double inhalation tubes over the shoulders and a safety belt harness to which a lifeline can be attached for the removal of the wearer in an emergency.
These masks are all furnished with the well known and comfortable Kops type facepiece of our latest all rubber design that you can easily slip on and quickly adjust to fit any face. This facepiece is so designed that there is nothing but a smooth rubber surface coming in contact with the forehead or face at any point, thus assuring the wearer of the utmost comfort.
The blower, of an improved design, which we now use on the mask will furnish approximately 15$ to 20$ greater air delivery than the blower we previously used. The check valves in the front Y-connection have also been re-designed,practically eliminating the resistance to the flow of incoming air. These features assure the wearer of the facepiece or facepieces a much greater air supply.
We imagine you would find our one inch oilproof hose satisfactory, as far as penetrations by liquids such as benzol or CCL4 are concerned. We do not, however, have any exact in formation or tests available on these, but for your information are quoting below the test this hose must Meet for the Bureau of Mines approval, vihich is issued on all of our 1" hose. you will notice, however, is permeation by gasoline and benzol
or carbon tetra chloride, and especially the former would deteriorate rubber more quickly than benzol*
"25 feet of hose will be tested for permeation by gasoline, by immersing it completely in a bath of gasoline. Air will be passed through the hose at a rate of 8 liters per minute for six hours. The air from the hose must not show more than 0.01$ of gasoline vapor at the end of this period"
