The Obama guidance for the first time pushed school district, college and university leaders to combat sexual harassment, including sexual violence, saying they were required to do so under Title IX, a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination. Women's groups hailed the 2011 policy as a crucial step in cracking down on sexual violence on college campuses, but critics said it trampled the rights of the accused. The Trump administration will revamp the guidance through a rule-making process that likely will take months, DeVos said during a speech at George Mason University in which she blasted the current guidance for undermining the due process rights of those accused of sexual assault or harassment. She said the administration will give all sides a chance to deliver their opinions on how it should move forward.
