TOXICITY OF EXTERIOR WOOD PRIMER WHITE & HOUSE PAINT 4-0 OUTSIDE WHITE WASCO CREAMERY & HDWE. CO. 5TH & G STREETS, P.0. BOX 706
, WASCO. CALIFORNIA - MISS DOROTHY HULL
The subject dealer has a customer who used 12 gallons of
Exterior Wood Primer White on the redwood fence posts around a
four-acre pasture. Someone then noticed that the Exterior Wood
primer White contained 44# basic carbonate white lead and ques
tioned whether or not this is safe for cattle- who might lick or
chew the paint off of the fence..
''
They are now asking us the following three questions:
1. Is it dangerous to leave the Exterior Primer on these fence posts and recoat it with House Paint 4-0 Outside White?
2. Will the Exterior Primer have to be removed?
3. What white paint do we recommend that is safe for both the fence posts and the wooden rails which are constructed of pine?
They have put one tablespoonful of creosote oil to the gallon of paint in the material to keep the cows away from it.
This is being relayed to you in line with the standard
practice of referring inquiries from the trade concerning health
hazards to the industry sales manager in Wilmington.
