j SE want to draw the attention o our traveling representatives El] and all connected with the Sales Department to the article on
page 26 concerning present costs of paint and varnish prom ducts. It very fairly describes the situation we are just now si confronting. ^ These conditions make it more and more difficult for us
to continue present prices, and it would take but little to make an advance absolutely compulsory. The only favorable factor in our costs at the present time is the reasonable price of linseed oil. If anything should occur to cause an advance in this article, and many think it likely, higher figures for our pro ducts could not be avoided without the sacrifice of the present narrow margin between costs and prices.
Wc deem it wise therefore to place this information before you in order that you may acquaint your trade with the actual conditions, from which they may intelligently decide how far it would be prudent for them to provide against the risk of higher values. There certainly is nothing to support a be
lief in lower figures. ' Everything points to a tremendous spring trade. We have been
extremely busy all through these winter months, piling up large stocks in preparation for it. We feel sure of our ability to render prompt shipments and good service this season.. At the same time we shall be glad to have nil stock orders as early as possible, in order that we may have them out of the way in good time before the heavy sorting-np onlets come in.
We wish to express the great satisfaction e feel with the splendid results accomplished thus far in the 1903 campaign by all departments of the busi ness. It is extremely gratifying and encouraging. Creat inroads have been made on our estimates. We are steadily climbing closer and closer to the high, place which marks our ambitious aim; and as we more nearly and surely approach it, we are stirred by a desire to shoot past the mark ami to establish more securely our reputation and ability not only to make good, but to exceed
our claims. This will be made sure by the continued application of the extraordinary
vigor and zeal which has characterized the work of this campaign.
