All residential roofs covered with shingles during the 1970's and 1980's are free of asbestos fibers. On commercial roofs where the architect specified a Class A shingle during the 1960 - 1970 era, it is possible that a shingle contains a very small amount of asbestos fibers entrapped in its asphalt coating. Bird needs two shingle samples from the roof in question as well as a copy of the architect's specification before we can make our recommendations to you. Thank you.
