Box 33098 Parma, Ohio 44130 Dear Ms. Spencer: As requested, an Industrial hygiene evaluation was conducted of Earl Graham*8 work history and possible exposure to asbestos. Mr. Graham's widow claimed that her husband's malignant mesothelioma was caused by exposure to asbestos at the Chevrolet Parma Plant. This evaluation consisted of a review of the facsimile file and pertinent industrial hygiene literature and a visit to the Chevro let Parma Plant. A walk-through tour of the type of equipment serviced by the claimant was conducted by Walter Leight, General Supervisor of Maintenance and Tom Danzey, Safety supervisor. The tour was arranged by Dennis Rademaker, an attorney representing the Chevrolet Parma Plant on this occupational disease claim. The actual area where Mr. Graham worked no longer exists. However, many of the machines were relocated to the area which was toured in the Prop shaft plant. According to company records, Mr. Graham was hired on 2/19/1949 as a Machine Operator, General. He remained in this Job until 2/5/1951 when he became a Machine Repair/Machinist trainee, sometime in 1955 he became a journeyman Machine Repair/Machinist and remained in this job until his retirement on 1/1/1980. He worked in the Transmission Department throughout his tenure at Chevrolet Parma Plant. The job description for machine repair/machinist was: "Diagnoses trouble in various types of machinery. Ad justs, disassembles, repairs and reassembles machinery. May be required to work on the floor. Bending, twist ing, stooping and moderate lifting required. May work around oil or mist." The job descriptions for machine repair/machinist and for machine operator are attached to this report. The job description and actual job duties have reportedly changed little over the years. The machinist was also called a machine shop repairman. He could have worked primarily at the machine disassembling and reassem bling or he could have worked primarily in the machine shop repairing parts which other machinists had removed and returned to the machine shop.
