D. Hoerger, . G. Watanabe (replacing P. J. Gehring). Members Absent: P. J. Gehring Also Present: T. R. Torkelson J. A. Gray (Scribe) Dr. J. R. Venable and T. R. Torkelson presented two letters received from J. Stafford of ICI. The letters relate infor mation concerning an alleged ASL case in the PVC fabrication industry in Italy. We have no information regarding this matter beyond that presented in the letters. The Group unanimously decided that these letters do not constitute "substantial risk" information under section 8(e) of TSCA, because we cannot reach a conclusion whether or not this known effect of VCM is occurring at a lower exposure level or during a shorter exposure period. The Group also unanimously decided that the two letters should be sent as a FYI to NIOSH and copied to EPA. The Group also briefly discussed the case of a Dow analysis of a competitor's product used in feminine hygiene pads and adult diapers, which appears to contain about 10 ppm of acrylamide. The Group felt it did not have enough infor mation to make a judgment on health risk. The Group unani mously decided that the information did not constitute "substantial risk" information under TSCA for two reasons. First, we don't manufacture, process or distribute the polymer.
