Mr. R. E. Wenz:
The insulation sample you sent from the ceiling beams of the telephone building at 2020 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh (3rd floor) has been analyzed for asbestos. The principal crystalline materials noted by x-ray diffraction were quartz and chrysotile. Both organic fibers and asbestiform birefringent fibers were noted when examined by polarized light microscopy. Because of the quartz particles coating the asbestiform fibers I was not able to use dispersion staining as further check for chrysotile, but all other tests showed this material contains chrysotile asbestos.
If you have any questions about this analysis, please call.
