DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT This project provides for an aroclor still preheater and pump to increase department capacity. APPROVALS Plant Manager ORIGINAL SIGNED BY. ----A.--MORGAN------- Date //<//C 7 Technical Production Manager Date Director of Manufacturing Date DSW 256213 STLCOPCB4061205 2- - Estimate No. 5334 Dept. 246 - Aroclor BACKGROUND INFORMATION Aroclor is in a sold out position despite the fact that Dept. 246 is opera ting at or above its capacity of 30.0 M #/yr. A major aroclor expansion is being planned, but increased production is necessary to meet sales through 1968. NEED FOR PROJECT The increased production of aroclors will result in new earnings of $135vOQO-B.T. on 1.85 M lbs. of product during 1968. Use of a still preheater will increase capacity from 2.5 M #/Mo. to 2.65 M #/mo. PRESENT SITUATION The aroclor s_ales forecast (H. J. Day - 7/13/67) and proposed increased capacity in M lbs: 1967 1968 1969 1970 1971 Sales Forecast - -- 33-3 37.2 40.4 44.0 Production Capacity - 30.0 33*3 -- Major Expansion - In a memo from R. M. McCutchan to H. C. Carder (6/I/67) it was stated that a still preheater, increased chlorine feed rate, and a FeClo filtering system were needed to get an increase of 5-7 M #/yr. The selection of a filter is in progress and confirmation of need will be made by IO/I/67. This decision depends upon further PR&D and TSD work in determining the optimum chlorinator catalyst level. At the present catalyst level the increased capacity of 1.85 M lbs./yr. can be attained without the filter. Increased chlorine feed rate will be possible when projects 3824 (EDC 10/15/67^ and 4864 (EDC 11/1/67) are completed. As a result, capacity will be further increased by 1.45 M lbs./yr. to a total of 33*3 M lbs./yr. SAVINGS AND/OR BENEFITS Aroclor is sold at $0.075/lb. above manufacturing and SARE cost. earnings will be: 1.85 M lbs. x $.075/lb. = $135,000/yr. (B.T.) New SAFETY No safety hazards will be created as a result of this project. STREAM AND AIR POLLUTION None DSW 256214 STLCOPCB4061206 Estimate No. 533^Dept. 246 - Aroclor 3 STATUS OF PROJECT Design package will be submitted to P&S within one month after approval. Installation should be about two months after transmittal. ALTERNATE COURSE There is no other economical course of action to increase the capacity of the present aroclor department. RECOMMENDATION Approval of this project is recommended. Prepared by: R. M. McCutchan ghw cc: Messrs. J. A. Morgan G. L. Bratsch W. J. Wilson A. M. McGrath J. W. Molloy R. McCutchan John McCarthy H.
