Mixer in the Lacquer Plant for past Ij. years* General medical and occupational history reveals no evidence of illness, occupational or otherwise, at the present time. On one occasion a year ago he burned his right eye with solvents. Approximately two weeks before his examination by us he discovered while in the movies that his vision was poor. Physical examination reveals the following: 1. Both pupils are irregular - neither reacts to light and. only poorly to accommodation. Visual acuity is markedly diminished. 2* There is some inflammation of the nose and throat. There is a small, slightly tender protrusion of the muscles of the back through tho binding ligaments at the level of his last vertebra. hr. There is a soft, faint diastolic murmur in his heart which can be brought out only when its rate is accelerated. There is no evidence of active heart disease or heart failure. 5* The right knee jerk la present but the left is absent* Laboratory examinations (urinalysis, blood count and analysis, and spinal fluid examinations, including tests for syphilis, were normal in every respect except for the following: 1. The urinary lead excretion was moderately elevated. 2, The blood lead level was slightly elevated. Conclusions and Recommendations We have studied this man carefully and can find no evidence of active heart disease nor of syphilis, either systemic or of the central nervous system. His eye symptoms have disappeared and his visual acuity has been corrected by getting glasses. The degree of abnormal lead content in his 0013' 2 December 25, 1$k-0 body la below dangerous levels.
