Dear Mr. Bevan, I have received the correspondence on Drury dated 15th and 28th Hovenbor, As you know, thore have been no previous cases of nervous sequelae due to tetraethyl lead intoxication, and it is doubtful if, in this instance, the present mental state can be attributed to tetraethyl lead. From Cassells' reports it is obvious that Drury was not normal mentally before he had the tetraethyl lead poisoning. One thing which struck me when reading the letter from Dr. Andrews, was the fact that symptoms similar to those he is now suffering from, also occur in bromide intoxication. As you know, bromide is given as a nerve sedative for practically all nervous disorders. I have spoken to Cassells about this and he doesn't know whether Drury is having bromide. He suggests that if the lead figures are normal it should be considered, and further that I . should see him if you think that necessary. He told me that the responsibility is with the Petroleum Board. It would be a pity if sequelae, such as in this case, were attributed to tetraethyl lead poisoning without the fullest investigation. I might say that if Drury is having br.jmide,it is possible to test the bromide concentration in blood and urine. There are normal standards. I know that Schwizer at Stanlow is also getting a bee in his bonnet about sequelae of tetraethyl lead intoxication, and that ho proposes publishing something on the subject.
