SUBJECT B 414 AREA MONITORING REPORT FOR 4-26 to 5-3-76 Date/Shift 4-26/IB & 1C COMMENT Problems with the new seal on small VCM pump was producing I to 8 ppm readings at various sensors throughout the building. OVA showed over 150 ppm right at the seal housing. Old pump was installed on 4-27. This seal also leaks but to a lesser degree. 4-26/1-C One reading of 34 ppm on third floor because D poly manway was leaking after pressuring with VCM. Exhaust hood over manway was not installed properly. We are also going to clean exhaust ducts which should increase exhaust capacity. 4-27/2-A Vacuum hose blew off while trying to evacuate small VCM pump. This produced readings of 2 to 80 ppm on all three floors. Line came cff on the first floor, but the highest reading was recorded at the second floor fire door. Operator quickly closed the valve at the pump and all readings dropped below I ppm In 2 cycles. 4-27/2-A North and N-W winds produced periodic readings of 2 to 12 ppm on the roof sensor (Stream 5) for several cycles during the stripping of the 3,000 BDT. Nothing was detected in the building during this operation. 4-27/2-B Small VCM pump seal was producing reading of I to ppm for extended periods of time (I hr.). Pump was evacuated and old pump re installed . 4-27 to 4-29/ 2-B--4-B No alarms but slight changes in GC readings. Later investigation found sample valve on GC was sticking periodically which prevented new samples from being analyzed. We have increased the pressure to operate this valve and we have shown the Working Foreman how to calibrate the GC. If there are no readings for an entire shift the Foreman will calibrate the GC from now on. * 4-29/4 C Operator disconnected 30 gal poly blowdown before it was adequately evacuated which produced one reading of 66 ppm on stream 4. We have been having problems with leaking fittings on the operation, so we will be doing some piping modifications. >JGC 23562 B 414 AREA MONITORING REPORT FOR 4-26 to 5-3-76 p. 2 Date/Shift . 4-30/5A GENERAL Comment Many 1 and 2 ppm read 1ngs throughout the building may be coming from ALGCP since the wind is from the SE and the roof sensor is also getting readings. Most readings only lasted for I or 2 cycles except for stream 4 which was above I ppm for over an hour. This,may be from the D poly agitator flange or the Cono filter. A good week overall with one bad excursion. Readings were above I ppm only 2.3% of the time, although one shift had 9.5% and one was only .35%. Gary Wilson NGC 23563
