Suggested Generic Hair Coloring Formula Lead acetate crystals Flowers of sulfur N.F. sublimed Glycerin U.S.P Ethyl alcohol* Distilled or deionized water 20. grams 10. grams 100. grams 60. ml q.s. 1000. ml K-The ethyl alcohol as used commercially is bought under the term Specially Denatured Alcohol #1+0 but to obtain this may entail considerable delay. It is possible to substitute regu lar U.S.P. Ethyl Alcohol if tax free is available to your laboratory. Instructions for mixing: Grind sulfur in glycerin and add al cohol to this mixture. Dissolve lead acetate in 500 ml. of water. Hash glycerin, sulfur alcohol mixture into a suitable container for mixing the entire batch using 200 ml. water. Add lead acetate solution. Finally wash container with additional water to make up to volume of 1000 ml. If perfume is desired for aesthetic reasons, it is suggested that 2.5 ml. oil of bay will be adequate. If a wetting agent is desired, it is suggested that Atlas Chemical CompanyTs Tween 20 will be good at a level of 2.5 ml. This and the oil of bay may be added to the alcohol before mixing alcohol with glycerin and sulfur. See attached instructions for use of this product by test sub jects. Use only enough product to evenly dampen hair. This will not exceed 5 ml. per application and may be less for short hair. Distribute through hair by rubbing for a moment and then groom hair with comb and/or brush. Always wash hands immediate ly after applying. Apply daily for two weeks and then twice weekly thereafter. During the first two weeks do not shampoo more than once each week. Thereafter shampoo as often as re quired. Always reapply after shampooing when hair is dry.
