SUBJECT Middletown Works Expansion Program Report for Week Ending May 18, 1971 General ' Formal acceptance by Armco was received on May 13, 1971, for the following projects: 6471-15 - Power Distribution to No. 4 Coating Line 6471-60 - Tandem Cold Mill Progress At^the Vacuum Degassing Facility (6471-32), the final siding requirements were completed, and work continued on refractory work for Vessel No. 1, refractory installation in the emergency diversion trough, and insulation of the steam piping. Mechanical work was essentially completed on the snorkel oven, except for the exhaust stack, and continued on the vacuum ductwork*.' Installation and testing of various piping systems continued while electrical effort concentrated on power and control wiring and check out of desuperheater controls. For the Continuous Casting Facility (6471-36), five carloads of the final Demag shipment were received and unloaded during the period. One final car remains in transit due to overside and different routing. Assembly of the casting machine and related piping and electrical work continued throughout the period. The baghouse has been essentially completed and will be put into operation pending completion of minor punch list items and installation of the bags. 'Middletown SUBJECT Middletown Works Expansion Program Report for Week Ending May 11, 1971 General. Efforts toward implementation of the recently signed Work Rules Agreement has resulted in the electricians now reporting to their place of work (i. e. craft gang box) by job starting time. This occurred last Firday, May 7, 1971, for the first time. Progress At the Vacuum Degassing Facility (6471-32) installation of siding and the pneumatic tube system is nearing, and work continued on the insulation of the steam piping. Refractory work was resumed on Vessel No. .1 during the period and required rework on Vessel No. 2 is underway to allow for the refractory installation on this vessel. .Aligning and welding of the vacuum ductwork and installation of the snorkel oven was also in progress. Service and equipment ,, piping continued with the successful blowdown of the 425 pound line to the Desuperheater Building accomplished this period. Electrical work continued as required, with testing and checkout started at the Desuperheater Building.and required rework of the D. C. control panel underway. In the Continuous Casting Facility (6471-36), installation of casting machine components continued with setting of rolls in the runout area, setting of spray chamber exhaust fan motors and hydraulic sump motors, and assembly of the mold oscillator and tundish skull removal frame. Assembly and welding of the teeming ladles continued with one ladle now , completed. Piping and electrical work continued in available areas. Kast Middletown 6471__________ The following is submitted for the February, 1971 Monthly Status Report: Job No. 6471 * "Project 600", Middletown Works Expansion Program Armco Steel Corporation, Middletown, Ohio The appropriation for project 6471 -00-7, Indirect Management Costs for 1971, in the engineering report amount of $1,589,000, was received during February. This appropriation brings the total amount appropriated for Middletown to $483,461, 009. (This represents $412,903,159 for the total design and construction budget and $20,557,850 for Armco Other Related Costs). Work was essentially completed during February on the preparation of the engineering report for the Hot Rolled Processing Facilities (6471*41) and will be formally submitted early in March. Detail design work was completed for the Vacuum Degassing Facility (6471*32) and continued on the Continuous Casting Facility (6471*36). Construction was essentially completed on the Power Distribution project (6471*15) during the month, and continued on the Vacuum Degassing Facility (6471*32) and the Continuous Casting Facility (6471*36). For the Vacuum Degassing Facility (6471*32), building steel was essentially completed during the period and intermediate concrete floors were completed at three elevations. Piping and electrical work continued during the period and work by the major equipment supplier and erector is well underway. This project is approximately 35% complete physically, with startup of this facility currently anticipated in June, 1971. KEN 009409 Monthly Statue Report February, 1971 -2 - March 10, 1971 At the Continuous Casting Facility (6471-36), building steel is also essentially completed. Work continued on the installation, leveling, and aligning of casting machine components. Work was underway on the heat shield installation, roofing and siding, and available areas for piping and electrical work. This project is approximately 68% complete physically, with startup of this facility currently anticipated for November, 1071.
