Allen, Personnel Man ager, Wood Coaversion Cd, Cloquet, Minn., informed the Committee that a motion had been passed by the Executive Committee at their meeting Tuesday rooming, October 17, 1950, that separate statistics would be pub lished for the Insulation Sub-committee. He also pointed out that the first thing the Committee had to do was formulate a defini tion to be used for the purpose of classi fying plants in this group. G, W. Harper made a motion, seconded by Mr. R. W, Croucher, that the following definition be recommended to the Contest Committee for adoption: Insulation and Building Board Products made essentially from or vegetable fibers to include all operations and processes from the point of receipt to all raw ma terials to and including the shipment of the finished products. Vote passed unani mously.) FL M. BAILEY: What can be done to eliminate paper cuts while wrapping board? R. W. CROUCHER (Safety Director, Minnesota & Ontario Paper Company) : We do not have this trouble, but the only solu tion Is to teach the employees to be more careful. G. E, ALLEN: This is due more to a hand condition than the lack of protective equipment. F. J. PEERENBOON (Kimberly Clark Corporation. Neenah, Wisconsin) : We had trouble with dust from Dowlcidc, but eliminated this condition by storing h in a bin equipped with a vacuum system. S. KRAJCI (Cclotex Corporation, Chi cago, Illinois): We eliminated the dust condition by using Dowtdde briquets. R. W. CROUCHER: Are other com panies having accidents because of the methods used in calipering board? (None of the companies present had any accidents in connection with this condition.) B. J. LEE: Is anyone having trouble with slitter knives and saws breaking and what method is mod for testing for imperfection*? S. KRAJCI: We are investigating test equipment from the Magnafiux Corporation. W. BEBBE (XosuUte Division, Minne sota Sc Ontario Paper Company, Interna tional Falls, Minnesota): What are other companies mint for cleaning asphalt from machine parts, etc? (The Kimberly dark Corporation and the Wood Conversioo Company reported using Stamsol which is a very satisfactory solvent) F. J. PEERENBOON: We are having a number of injuries caused from cutting wire -around the pulp bales. We use wire cutters. S. KRAJCI: We me an adz for cutting the wire and the handle is long enough to keep the men out of range of the snapping wire. > J. SLOAN (Johns-Manvide, Canada) ; Plastic-leather gloves should be used while cutting wire around pulp bales. (At the close of the meeting, Mr. Allen led a short discussion in regard to future objectives of the Committee. It was agreed that efforts would be made to encourage the exchange of ideas pertaining to safetyin the Insulation Manufacturing Industries. Jt was further agreed that a committee headed by R. It Bailey, of the Flint- kote Company, Meridian. Miss., would de velop a pamphlet covering Safety Committee activities hi the Insulation Industries. It was agreed that Mr. Bailey would develop this information by questionnaire at the earliest date possible. Amos Keen, Safety Director of the Armstrong Cork Company, Lancaster, Pa., was appointed to develop a list of initial members of the section together with the names and addresses of the persons respon sible for safety in their respective plants. Mr. Keen will also assist the Contest Com mittee to establish separate statistical listings for the group in the Monhly Contest reports so that the change can be made by Jan uary 1, 1951.)
