Scarito Enclosed is a flow sheet and brief operating procedure which describe the process to reduce the residual vinyl chloride in the plastisol reactor towers to less than the EPA requirement. The limited tests to date produced very convincing results (one-third to one-half of the EPA required levels). More confirming tests will be run to fine-tune the process, but we do not expect there to be any substantial change from the process described. JWP/mz Enclosures COLORITE 018738 ? PROCEDURE STEAM STRIPPING TOWER RECOVERY PROCEDURE When tower is ready to dump, at penthouse, open charge manifold isolation valve, manual steam valve and tower selector switch. At tower bottom, open manual valves to start dump to selected stripper and select tower to be steamed on multi-point tower selector switch. At end of dump, open stripper to recovery and put jacket on heat-up when tower is on vacuum side. At preselected vacuum in stripper, start steam to top of tower by depres sing ON button located near stripper pressure/temperature recorder. At end of tower recovery (after preselected time and/or vacuum in stripper) close tower dump isolation valve, put multi-point tower selector switch to OFF position (shuts off steam) and close stripper inlet valve on dump line. Put tower on full-cooling to cool down jacket then at penthouse turn manual steam valve off. Put tower switch on OFF position and break vacuum with nitrogen (to 2-3 psig if vapor space is to be sampled). After vapor space sampling (if required), open vent valve on top of the tower, connect bottom airout valve, and open manway nozzle in preparation for cleaning and charging. L.
