T his is the ope ratio n in brake serv icin g w h en exposu re to asbestos dust is at Its highest. In add ition to the approved respirat or, there m ust be local exnaust ven tilatio n such that the w orker exposures are m aintained at least below the 1976 O S H A asbestos standards. If there is any question as to the e ffic ie n c y o f asbestos dust rem oval by the m achine, the m anufacturer should be contacted. 5. In d u stria l v a cu u m clean er bags c o n ta in in g as bestos dust and clo th s used ,fo r w ip in g brake assemblies should be sealed in p la s tic bags and labeled w ith the fo llo w in g w arning label printed in letters o f s u ffic ie n t site and co n tra st to be readily visible-and legible: CAUTION: CONTAINS ASBESTOS FIBERS. AVOID BREATHING DUST. BREATHING ASBESTOS DUST MAY CAUSE SERIOUS BODILY HARM. A ll asbestos w aste sh o u ld be disp osed o f in accordance w ith the O S H A asbestos regulation. D uring rem oval o f vacuum bags, an approved respirator, as described in (2) on the previous page should be w orn. 6. A ll flo o r cleaning in areas iM iere brakes are repaired should be done w ith the high e ffi cien cy in d u stria l vacuum clea n er as described in (3) on the previous page. U n der no circu m stances should dry sweeping take place. G rin d ing (arcing) m achines sho u ld also be cleaned w ith such a vacuum cleaner and any rem aining dust w iped w ith a dam p d o th . A n approved respirator, as described previously should be used during this deaning. 7. Although adherence to the above procedures should m inim ize any co ntam ination o f w ork d o th in g , it is necessary th at the app ropriate sections o f the -C S K A regulations on asb-'tor, be fo llo w e d when ceiling levels o f asbestos dust exceed cu rren t standards. This co u ld involve special clo th in g , change room s, etc. A t the very least the w o rk cloths should not be taken hom e b u t should remain at w ork fo r industrial laun d e r in g , B. Proper hygiene practices w ill help m inim ize exposure to asbestos dust. Wash thoroughly before eating and do n o t eat in the v w rk area. Rem em ber, sm dking is harm ful to the health, and sm oking coupled w ith breathing asbestos d u st is e x tre m e ly dangerous. CAUTION: DO NOT BREATHE ASBESTOS DUST .
