Mr. Evaristo Cruz Chair Director of Environmental Management Ysleta del Sur Pueblo of Texas 119 S. Old Pueblo Rd. El Paso. TX 79907
Dear Chairman Cruz. 1 want to thank you for co-chairing the National Tribal Operations Committee (NTOC)
meeting with me earlier this month. I am pleased that the National Tribal Caucus and EPA Senior Managers from across the agency had the opportunity for meaningful discussion on important environmental issues impacting tribes. As I shared at our meeting, this Administration is committed to working with tribes on a govemment-to-government basis. 1 am also very pleased to have had the opportunity to reaffirm EPA's 1984 Indian Policy at a meeting with the National Tribal Caucus and EPA's Senior Managers to demonstrate these commitments.
I understand that afterwards, the meeting included a very productive discussion on a number of important issues - the tribal perspective on cooperative federalism, tribal experience on the Superfund program, and tribal concerns regarding EPA's environmental management programs and budget. This is important feedback that EPA needs so that we are informed by tribal governments in our actions, and the NTOC meeting allowed us to engage with tribal governments on these important issues.
