Several plants have noticed a deterioration mainly on the
weather exposed surfaces of Transite siding such that ground samples taken in the immediate area contain significant amounts of - ~
asbestos fibers released from the Transite
Please inspect any Transite siding at your site Please call me for futher information if there appear to be any problems
The vendor also warms that this material becomes
with age and cautions against walking on Transite roofs as it could suddenly break
very brittle or the like

Transite Deterioration - Asbestos Release
Transite has been used as a roofing and siding material in many manufacturing and warehouse buildings It has been found on inspection that some transite has deteriorated thus generating potential sources of environmental contamination from asbestos
and other fibrous materials
Analytical results
a survey indicated
of bulk samples
that chrysotile
obtained asbestos
from a site during
content varied between
5 and 60 Based on these results as well as EPA Guidelines for
school buildings Dena Meyer recommended that attempts be made to
encapsulate the damaged transite with an aluminum mastic coating Lucite paint system or be replaced
