I have also enclosed information on RG-244, a product more similar to pyrogenic silica in performance, but less expensive than Cabosil or Aerosil. RG-244 is an excellent viscosity control agent for epoxies and would be used at a much lower level than RG-144 or silica. .......... . . . During 1971 we shipped RG-144 to Westinghouse locations in Greenville, Pittsburgh and Sharon, Pa. and to Hampton, S.C. With regard to asbestos toxicology information, we are preparing a Corporate "position paper" on the entire subject and it should be available in 2-3 months. The new federal regulations and general publicity about asbestos hazards are directed at large consumers and those exposed for long periods of time to asbestos dust. _ Your relatively small usage and exposure to RG-144 should present no problems. I would suggest that production workers use a res pirator during handling and dumping of RG-144 into your resin system. No dust will be generated after the asbestos is wet out with resin. Two respirators of similar design are recommended: Willson's Model No. 1009 with R-520 filter and MSA's No. 86432 with Type "H" UItra-fiI ter. Both of these have Bureau of Mines approval for asbestos and would also serve quite well for pyrogenic silica and similar dusty materials. i-ir. rtooerT Kurz Westinghouse Electric Corp.
