Townsend in Washington last Thursday and delivered two copies of the report to him arid two copies of the Vitameter "booklet. I discussed the entire matter with him and two of hi3 associates in the Industrial Hygiene Division of the U. S. Public Health Service. Doctor Townsend expressed his appreciation of the cooperative attitude of your company, and was grateful for the Information which we supplied. He took the position that there is nothing to "be done, at present, by the U.S.P.H.S; that the problem is being Investigated adequately and the necessary answer will be obtained in due course. He believes, as I do, that this Is a good time to go slowly so as not to jeopardize the health of persons involved in the Industry and so to jeopardize the business activity here involved. It may be that you will wish now or later to communicate with Doctor Townsend directly as to his attitude, rather than to leave this part of the matter In my h a n d s . In fact I think it wise for your company to have some direct communication from the Public Health Service. Whether or not this is the time for such action is a matter for you and your associates to decide. In any case, I give you below the full name, official title and office address of Doctor Townsend for such use as it may be to you.
