Clever detailing the industrial hygiene survey of your East Chicago lead refinery Mr. Cievcr*s report is quite informative concerning certain environmental conditions which call for correction, particu larly by the application of exhaust ventilation at the prin cipal sources of fume and dust. The exact types and shapes of the hoods and the selection of face and transport veloci ties will depend, of course, on the particular operations and the manner in which they are carried out* T am certain that the intake velocities specified by Mr. Clever will capture the fume and dust, but I also believe that lower intake velocities at some of the operations would be equally satisfactory and more economical. Therefore, I think it would be most advisable for me to visit the plant in order to familiarize myself with the equipment and the operations in order to establish in my own mind the need for employing the face velocities which have been recommended.
