MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS In view of previous discussions about membership subscriptions from manufacturers of assembled articles, and conversations Tfaich the secretary reported he had had with the Western Electric Company, it was regularly moved, seconded and carried that a ceiling of $500*00 per year be placed on subscriptions from manufacturers of assembled articles. 1950 - BUDGETS . Red Lead Division Fund - It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the budget recommended by the secretary for this Division, totalling $23,000, be approved, to be arrived at as follows; Board of Directors Meeting Minutes -2- December 9, 19l*9 The entire White Lead Research Pond, amounting to $10,021* is to be transferred to the Red Lead Division, to be credited against each individual company's subscription in the same amount as originally subscribed by each Company* In addition, $2,000 is to be drawn from the reserves on hand in the Red Lead Fund at the end of the year, with the amount of new subscriptions to be $10,976* Metal He Lead Products Division Fund - It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the budget of $23,000 for the Metallic Lead rt*oducts Division be approved as submitted, all of which is to be subscribed except that the amount of $3,002*00 held in the Sheet Lead Fund originally subscribed by mining companies, be transferred to this Division as credit against the mining company's subscriptions for 1950* Educational Service Division Fund - It was regularly moved, seconoeo. and carried that the reconmendation to continue the Educational Service Division for another year, using only funds and assets on hand, be approved, with no new funds to be subscribed. General Promotion Fund - The great necessity of work to increase the amount of lead pigments in house paints was discussed at some length and it was felt that if anything were to be done to help the situation it must be done promptly. Recognizing that the Association has about $86,000 originally subscribed for the purpose of promoting white lead, the president and secretary of the Association were instructed to make an immediate study of what the Association might do to help out in thr lead pigment situation and to make definite recommendations to the 3oard as soon as possible. Survey of Lead Covered Cable - The possible seriousness of inroads being made into the use of le ad for cable sheathing by substitute she athi ngs was brought up and the secretary was instructed to have a survey made to determine to what extend substitutes are now affecting, or may affect, the use of lead for cable sheathing and what steps, if ary, might be taken by the Association to protect this lead market. Safely and Iftrgiene Division Fund - It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the budget of $31,000, recommended by the secretary, be approved, but the secretary was instructed to make an effort to have the proposed work on lead poisoning in children in Balt imore done more economically, if possible* Ordinary Fund - The secretary reported that the lease on the Association's office would expire April 30, 1950 and that he had been approached by the Eastern Offices Inc. which had asked an increase in ^ rental from $3.35 per sq ft. to $1*.00 per sq* ft., amounting to approx " imately $1,200 per year. He also informed the 3oard that the Association had been operating in recent years on short leases and that the builiiT,~ had offered us a five-year lease, if we desired it. He was instructed to accept the new terms which seemed reasonable, and to ask for a twoyear least with an option for another year, if possible. LiA003S5 Board of Directors Meeting Minutes -3- Decamber 9, 19l9 It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that an Ordinary Fund budget of 71,000 be approved for 1950, the increase of approximately $6,000 over 19l9 to take care of the cost of printing additional issues of LEAD, to be put on a quarterly basis, and the printing of a new edition of USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT LEAD, only $65,000 of the total to be subscribed, the balance to be drawn from reserves, which had increased about $6,000 during 19l9.
