BLS Guidelines/CMA'S DuPon t Award The committee discussed re ports for the DuPont Safety Award and were informed of the Safet y Programs Task Group's planned survey CMA 060819 HSC Meeting Minutes January 21, 1987 Page 2 to assess changes in occ upational injury and illness reporting statistics using the -new BLS guidelines. The committee asked the task group to begin the survey and report to the committee at the next meeting on statisti cal trends and major problems or areas of concern with the new BLS guidelines. The committee also asked the task group to publish th|e questions and answers presented at the BLS seminars. 3. Outside Services Budget Sponsors were asked to di scuss projects for the FY 86/87 outside services budget with tas|k group chairmen and to identify any projects targeted for FY 87/88 budget that could be started in this fiscal year. Sponsjars are to report back to the committee at the meeting in February with proposed projects. 4. Worker Notification Legi lation The Worker Notification Work Group was asked to identify key concerns about Rep. Gaydb s' and Sen. Metzenbaum's bills on worker notification and to reviu'w the criteria for a sound science trigger for medical surve illance. The committee modified the proposed policy on worker notification for the Board of Directors and Executive Committee Meetings in January, recommending government notification f employees. 5. Toxicity Database Projec: The committee reviewed tlie project to investigate the toxicity database for selected in dustrial chemicals, and agreed with the purpose of the project: to demonstrate industry's commitment to the identification and a ^sessment of potential health risks of its products through an inve tigation of the toxicity database. The committee recommended thi t the Hazard Assessment Task Group review the project in two phase the first to be a review of criteria for evaluating toxicity database for risk assessment. The second phase will be to decide whether to continue with the original project depending on the outcome of phase one. 6. AIHC Project The committee approved the Hazard Assessment Task Group's request to spend $10,000 in outs 4<de services funds to support AIHC in its project on developing ob; ective criteria to assess the public health significance of e kperimental studies on chemical carcinogens. 7. CAIR Economic Impact Analysis The committee approved the Notification and Reporting Task Group's request for $38,000 in outside services funds to study the probable economic impact of EPA's proposed Comprehensive Assessment and Informaticn Rule. CMA 060820 HSC Meeting Minutes January 21, 1987 Page 3 HSC Planning Meeting The committee discussed the Hemlth and Safety Committee's Planning Meeting and decided to change the dates to May 6-8. The meeting will be organized around Goals 1, 2, and 3 and each half day session will be devoted to dis cussing each goal. G. Rodenhausen will contact three committee m[iembers to lead the discussions. The committee will have a regular business meeting as scheduled on May 20. 9. Health and Safety Review The External Affairs Task Group presented a proposed agenda for the March 26 Health and Safety Review and recommended Senator Metzenbaum as a luncheon speaker R. Hussey will contact CMA's Government Relations Department about Sen. Metzenbaum as a speaker. 10. Sponsors Reports The External Affairs Task Group asked the committee to review the current issues covered in the Health, Safety and Chemical Regulations Division. Committ|<ee members are to add, delete or update the issues and comment to R. Schumacher as soon as possible. The committee asked the CAER T)ask Group to consider creating an 800 telephone number for a CA1 hotline. C. Cathcart will look into the feasibility and cost for an 800 number. The Public Compensation Task Group will report to the committee at the February meeting on the cri rrent activities of the Liability Reform Task Group. 11.
