Browning has been assigned those duties in Engineering formally performed by Mr. C. A. Burton and with this assignment he becomes a member of this Board. OLD BUSINESS 1. Hourly Safety Committee _Be_commendatJlQns A. The parking lot at polyethylene has been provided. This Item Is, therefore, closed. B. Company truck bed repairs Involving the use of checkerplates are underway. C. Scaffold boards having been painted with grit are causing some problems In handling. Aluminum scaffold boards. In limited quantity, are now available In the plant, but can only be used on Safeway scaffolds. Messrs. Wood and Gilmore will Investigate this problem further. D. Tire Inspection program has been setup on monthly basis and several tires on heavy equipment have already been replaced. 2. Potable Water System Messrs. PAFE's are circulating for approval for Department 17 and Dock No. 1. Work Is In progress In the south storage area. Dock No. 2 and 3j and the Styrene Rack. 3. Critical Shower and Eve Bath Alarms Engineering is working on a request for alarms in VCM. PAFE has been prepared for department 24 and is out for approval. The order is being prepared for department 31. The status of an order for the HC1 rack is unknown. 4. Local Eye Bath Standard The eye bath standard for this Installation was approved by the Board, and the drawing will be prepared for distribution by Messrs. Gilmore and Browning. 5. Coast Guard Security Passea The Board was informed that a photographer will he available on August 13 for taking pictures of those individuals who need Port Security Passes here at the plant. The actual is suing of passes will be done in September unless difficulties are experienced in obtaining proof of citizenship by various individuals. 7. Nitrogen System The drawing on the nitrogen system has been completed and is being circulated for comments and approval. NEW BUSINESS 1. Housekeeping Plaques Presentation Messrs. Rotzler and Wood reported that they intend to present the housekeeping plaques to their personnel in meetings. 2. Investigation Reports Five spills occurred in July of. which all had been reported but copies had not been sent to Mr. Gilmore. His name should be added to the distribution llBt of the Plant Manager's Safety Board. 3. Hourly Safety Committee Recommendations The Hourly Safety Committee recommended that the tool situation in our plant be studied for correction. This matter was refer red to Mr. Wood. However, as a result of this meeting, a procedure for answering the Hourly Safety Committee was developed. The Hourly Committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month, and recommendations will be carried, in letter form, to the Board. In the Board meeting, assignment of the problem will be made by the Plant Manager to a superintendent. This super intendent will prepare hiB answer and review it with Mr. Gilmore. When the answer is ready for presentation to the Board, the superintendent will prepare a written letter to the Board, with seven copies to the Hourly Safety Committee. Mr. Gilmore will take these copies to the next Hourly Safety Committee meeting and submit this letter as the recommendation being made to the Plant Manager'8 Safety Board. Manual of Safe Practices Preliminary drafts of the new Manual of Safe Practices were distributed to the members. Their comments are solicited, and a meeting will be held on August 24 for the discussion of this Manual. -- 5. Accident Statistics Mr. Gilmore presented a copy of Mr. Buttery's report of statistical analysis on minor injuries to each of the members. The general contents of the report were discussed. The Board gave general approval to the work being done. 6. Supervisor's Safety Meeting The Safety Meeting Committee requested, and received prelim inary approval of their proposed October Program. This pro gram will include a movie on the Signal Hill (California) fire, and will be presented to all employees if such schedule can be arranged without the use of overtime. 7. Put'8 Comments Mr. Putnam commended Departments 19-20 and 25 on their im proved housekeeping and stated that a letter had been sent to the unit. The superintendents were asked to consider the idea of -s sending some of their people to outside safety meetings and ~-> . conferences, such as.
