Fetzer Orta September 20, 1974 Subject Vinyl Chloride Exposure This is to notify you that on September 14, 1974 you were exposed to vinyl chloride in excess of 50 ppm--91,95 ppm. The sampling occurred on the hootowl shift from 2330 to 0130. The sample was analyzed on 8-16-74; calculated on 8-17-74, and was reported to you by phone on 8-18-74. This letter will be presented to you upon your arrival on shift Friday, September 20, 1974. Corrective actions that have been taken to reduce the exposure to Laboratory Analysts include the following. 1) New Laboratory hood to perform analytical testing has been Installed, 2) All vinyl bombs are to remain outside the'Laboratory until actually needed. 3) All connections, making and breaking, made with the sample bombs are to be done in the hood. 4) All vinyl transfers are to be done in the hood. 5) Finished sample bombs are to be kept in the south hood until emptied. Further evaluation of our work practice will be made in an effort to de termine the cause of this exposure. Personnel sampling will be conducted weekly until three consecutive weeks show results remaining below 50 ppm at which time the frequency will return to monthly sampling. P. L.
