It is believed that the federal regulations will be very strict in the use and processing of asbestos which has been classified along with beryllium and asrcury as a hazardous notarial. Bill Skilss, Plant Superintendent Kerch 21, 1972 This company uses approximately 20 tone a year of asbestos identified as 7K-Q2. It is received by rail from Johne-Hanville Company of Canada in 100 pound pressed bags. The finished product is Kano-Eote. This is a fire proofing material that is used la the building industry as a spray* It is packaged dry in 50 pound bags and shipped by rail to most aidNestem states. An average 652 pound batch consists of asbestos - 100 lbs., gjfpsua - 500 lbs., #3 veraieullte - 250 lbs., and a product called dupcaal 2 lbs. The operation consists of dumping the dry ingredients froa paper bags into a waste high hopper. It is then conveyed automatically by bueloet elevator to an over-head aiming and storage container. The mixed Ingredients are then gravity fed to ground level and are then bagged in the fifty pound bags. The operator is required and does mar a respirator throughout the entire operation. Possible Problem Areast There is no vent or exhaust fan directly connected to this operation. However, the aixer is located reasonably close to two large doors in the rear of the building and there is a light dust problem with emissions froa this door. Frank Boss of this Division was present at the time of the survey and has been working with the coi^any on this problem and it should be corrected in the near future. Xt is important to note that the eo^any is now in the process of trying to find a substitute for the asbestos
