J. jRgO August 1, 1972 CAUTION LABELS FOR ASBESTOS CONTAINING PRODUCTS It 1b my considered opinion that our existing formulation for Profax 31 does not constitute any haaard to users as the asbestos fiber is locked into place by a phenolic resin. In normal operation dust is not generated during use except after the board has been subjected to sufficient high temperature to alter the crystal structure of the fiber and change its toxic properties. Proflex*, however, currently contains a higher proportion of asbestos than Profaxf* and the degree of bonding is less so dusting during use may possibly be encountered and therefore the product could possibly be regarded as potentially hazardous. Premix contains asbestos fiber in unbonded condition and a little dust is created when the product is dumped into the mixing tank and potentially could be classified as a hazardous material. It seems that the caution label: CAUTION Contains asbestos fibers Avoid creating dust Breathing asbestos dust May cause bodily harm but not on Profax 31. will be needed on Proflex* and Premix I, therefore, recomend that' you obtain stiek~on labels for application to all Proflex* and Premix boxes.
